Do you cook this Bitter gourd type? We call it as ‘Thumba Kariwila’ in Sri Lanka. However, what we found in Sri Lanka is smaller in size. Sometimes we find this vegetable in Little India –Singapore, those are little bit bigger than the ones we find in Sri Lanka.I cook it with tomato and coconut milk. It is good in taste and well goes with plain rice and other sides.

Here is another Sri Lankan style pumpkin curry. During my December holiday in Sri Lanka, my SIL’s mother cooked this pumpkin curry and it was really delicious. Actually it is another different taste and I asked her how she cooked. This is really simple and no much work to do. If you check this Mild spicy pumpkin curry or pumpkin kalu pol, you will see that the recipe require some ground coconut paste. In this recipe, we do not use grated coconut. Instead, we add mustard seeds paste.She simply cooked pumpkin with Sri Lankan raw curry powder and other spices.Finally added the mustard paste.

We like Cauliflower in our daily cooking. But, I don’t like to cook Cauliflower as a curry always. I tried it as a spicy appetizer and came out very well. Actually I used Sri Lankan style Chicken devil recipe and substituted cauliflower instead of chicken. Also did some changes to spices. Final outcome was really good.
On the other way, Cauliflower is a vegetable which is good to add into regular diet because of its health benefits. Do you know, it is a very good source of vitamin C? I never thought! But found while reading some articles on Cauliflower healthy benefits and amazed to see it is a rich source for vitamin B & C.

Sri Lankan Cauliflower Curry (Mild Spicy)

Cauliflower curry is popular at my home and I cook it frequently. Anyway I use few different methods to cook Cauliflower and this is one of the methods. In this cauliflower curry I use green chili and therefore the curry is not much spicy. Also appearance is yellowish with the creamy appearance of coconut milk.I don’t use thin coconut milk as of many Sri Lankan recipes, instead I cook this curry in thick coconut milk till the gravy becomes dry.
This curry well goes with rice or even with roti. Try this curry, also don’t forget to check this Cauliflower curry, which is bit spicy.

I like these Veggie cups, because it is an easy & healthy appetizer. Also it suits as a vegetarian appetizer and good to prepare for a party or a small gathering. I used a mustard dip with colourful veggie cups; anyway the sauce can be changed as per the taste. Usually I prepare this for an evening as a healthy snack. Not only the vegetables mentioned in below recipe, I use some other veggies which can be eaten raw.
If it is a party or a gathering, I use small cups to keep the veggies as an individual serving cup, then it is easy to serve and it looks pretty!

Polos Curry recipe again? yes,you heard it right,but this recipe is bit different from my previous Polos Recipe(Aka Polos ambula).Here I used toasted fresh coconut,so the gravy of the curry is rich and creamy.As a typical Sri Lankans, we are big fans of Polos curry(baby jackfruit curry). 
I found this recipe from my mom during her visit to Singapore last month.When she was cooking,she toasted some coconut and added it to the curry.Her curry looked a bit darker than mine because she toasted coconut until dark brown,but still tasted much!Anyway,I toasted slightly and wanted a brownish appearance in my Polos curry.When you cook,you can decide the colour and remember,don't over toast and burn coconut!!!
In Sri Lanka we can easily find jackfruit in any form,the baby one to mature or ripen fruit.

This Pumpkin curry (wattakka curry) is one of our favourite Sri Lankan Recipes. It is mild spicy and cooked using green chili instead of red chili. Therefore the appearance is yellowish.I have shared another way of cooking pumpkin in a curry called Wattakka Kalu pol maluwa,which use all spices and coconut after roasting till brown.The gravy of this curry is so thick and creamy due to grated coconut. Use fresh peppercorn in coconut paste instead of pepper powder and see the aroma and taste of this Sri Lankan curry!

This is a quick & easy green beans recipe from Sri Lankan Cuisine. We don’t use coconut milk here as of most of other Sri Lankan recipes. We like this as a side dish & well goes with plain rice. If you check this Green Beans Curry recipe, the steps are more similar to this dish, but finally we add coconut milk to make it as a curry. Sometimes it is interesting to see how the flavor is different from each dish only by changing an ingredient.

Sri Lankan Bandakka Salada (Ladies Fingers / Okra Salad Recipe)

Bandakka or Lady Finger is a vegetable which has a watery taste. In Sri Lanka, we have different recipes with Bandakka (okra), however normally I cook another spicy dish if I cook bandakka. If not, it is difficult to match the taste of the meal. Few years ago I tasted Bandakka Salada in a buffet in a Sri Lankan restaurant. I cannot remember the exact location or name, anyway it was in Galle road between  Kaluthara and Colombo. That was really tasty. After that day, Bandakka Salada included in my menu time to time. For this recipe, adjust salt, pepper & lime juice as per your taste. Then, I am sure you would love Sri Lankan Bandakka Salada much!

It is so precious if we can eat organic food straight from the farm. However nowadays it is not an easy task.

Eating organic food gives more benefits where food is grown with no pesticides and chemical fertilizers. By eating organic food, one can avoid the pesticide residue left on it & also the food is more on nutrients value. However is it possible to afford organic food nowadays? Though organic food can be found in super markets, they cost more than other food. It is something to decide individually.
