Sandwich Kebabs & using left over bread

This is just another quick & easy idea for tea time. I always don’t like wasting food, but need to think some way to use left over food. Most of the time I have few slices of bread left from breakfast. If I don’t have time to prepare another food, I convert it to bread crumbs. So easy. Just place the slices on a plate & put inside fridge without covering. It will be dried out within few days. Then I need to grind it to coarse bread crumbs. Good to cover any deep fry.

Here is another easy idea. I had few bread slices left from the breakfast.
Then used some spread in it.( Actually I used jam & butter)
Then I cut all the sandwiches into small triangles & squares.
After that I arranged those in skewers alternatively with some fresh grapes.

Just another way to enjoy sandwiches.

Cabbage Stir-fry in Sri Lankan style

As a Sri Lankan, I always cook our food most of the days during a week. We have several methods to cook same vegetable. Even the same recipe, we cook using fresh green chili. Also we cook using red chili powder. Two different flavors & appearance….

This is one method of cooking cabbage.

Ingredients (2 servings)

Half of a medium size cabbage
1 onion sliced
Few curry leaves
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp fenugreek seed
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp mustard seeds
Piece of cinnamon stick
2-3 tbspn of oil
Salt to taste
¼ cup thick coconut milk (optional)

Method

Wash & slice cabbage. The more thin the more tasty.

Mix all spices with cabbage & keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan, once it is hot; add mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds start to pop up, add onion & curry leaves. Sauté until onions are tender.
Then add cabbage mix (which already added spices) to the pan. Mix well.
Cover & cook for few minutes.
Adjust salt.
If you like, add thick coconut milk in this stage (optional)
Serve & enjoy!!

Sausage kebabs

I always like to try easy recipes. Sometimes I try to convert the original recipe & find my way of doing it. Sausage Kebab is one among those shortcut recipes.

Here is my recipe

Ingredients (2 servings)

4 sausages (washed,cleaned) (I used chicken sausages)
1 Bell pepper
1 onion
Few cherry tomatoes
Few skewers
3 tbspn Black pepper sauce
½ cup Rice wine
2 tbspn oil

Method

Cut sausages into bite size pieces
Mix black pepper sauce in rice wine (instead tomato ketchup or soy sauce can be used according to the taste)
Dip sausages in it & allow marinating.
Meanwhile cut onion & bell pepper into few pieces.
Heat oil in a pan, once it is heated; add the sausages & the marinating mix.
Pan Fry under very low flame until all the sauce is absorbed to sausages.
Switch off the flame.
Now you are ready with sausages, bell pepper, tomatoes & onion
Insert those into skewers in alternative pattern.

Now kebabs are ready.
Serve & enjoy.

Free e-books

I improved my culinary skills because of those good people who share their recipes & tips over internet. From cooking a simple meal to baking & decorating a cake or doing food garnishing, even menu planning, I learnt from those people & trying alone at home. Also my audience is you all in Food Corner. At home I have my husband only to taste my food. That’s the time I miss my motherland Sri Lanka. I have many neighbors & friends over there & I could share food with them.

Anyway now my Facebook page has grown & I can see it is becoming popular daily. Even I am more confident when I talk about a recipe or cooking. But still I am at the beginning of the journey.
When my Facebook Page reaches 2000 fans count, I thought of sharing most of my e-books I have downloaded from various sites.(Actually my plan was writing my own e-book, but I couldn’t complete it, it is for future…)

Below are a collection of various recipe books which can be downloaded freely. I have read & followed most of the books. Hope there is something useful for you too. And I am hoping to update the list when I see a new & attractive e-book. Therefore stay in touch & check this page time to time.

These all books are because of hard work of all the authors. Therefore credits should go to them. And in some books they have shared their websites, so it is easy to recognize the site who distributed free of charge.
As I understand, these books are allowed to share freely with friends. However check for the copyrighting rules if you are going to do any changes.

Thanks again for staying with Food Corner .You all make my day beautiful!!

Below is the list & check the page Free e-books time to time for new additions
